Cement Quantity Calculator
Get total cement, bag count and the cement/fly-ash split for a given volume and grade.
With the default inputs: Concrete volume 10 m³ · Concrete grade C30 · Fly ash replacement 0% etc.Total cement 3708 kg
Edit the inputs below to recalculate.Inputs
Result
| Volume with waste | 10.30m³ |
| Cement per m³ | 360kg |
| Total cement | 3.71t |
| 50 kg bags | 75bags |
| Total fly ash | 0kg |
| Total binder | 3600kg |
| Binder per m³ | 360kg/m³ |
Reference values for the same grade. Actual contents vary with aggregate grading, admixtures and supplementary materials; the approved mix design governs.

Formula
| Volume with waste | V_total = V × (1 + waste %) |
| Cement per m³ | mc = reference × (1 − replacement %) |
| Total cement | M = mc × V_total |
| Bags | N = ceil(M ÷ 50) |
| Fly ash | mf = reference × replacement % × 1.15 |
How to work it out
- Fix the use and grade first — masonry M5/M7.5/M10, plaster M10/M15, concrete C20-C40 all take very different cement quantities.
- Take cement mass per cubic metre (or per square metre) from the mix, in kilograms.
- Multiply by total volume or area.
- Convert to bags at 50 kg, or tonnes for bulk delivery.
- Add 2-3% for torn bags, damp and lumps; allow 1% for tank residue on bulk.
Where it goes wrong
- Ignoring cement class — P.O 42.5 and 32.5 differ by 10-15% for the same C30, which is a whole order batch when counted in bags.
- Mixing bagged and bulk bases — bags are nominal 50 kg with about ±1 kg spread, so large volumes must be verified by weight.
- Using cement that has lumped — strength loss exceeds 20% and it is invisible, so only incoming testing catches it.
Material and cost
Bagged P.O 42.5 runs about 400-480 per tonne and bulk 350-430, so bulk is 8-12% cheaper but needs a silo. A 10,000 m² residential frame uses roughly 800-1,200 tonnes, so a 50 per tonne difference is 40,000-60,000. Cement also has a shelf life: strength starts to fall after three months and requires retesting after six.
On site
- Keep bulk silos segregated by batch and use first-in first-out; clean the tank residue periodically.
- Stack bagged cement no more than ten high, 300 mm clear of walls and floor — damp is a bigger risk than load.
- Do not mix cement types (Portland, ordinary Portland, composite); setting time and strength gain differ.
Basis
- GB 175-2007 Common Portland cement (types, strength classes, requirements)
- JGJ 55-2011 Specification for mix proportion design of ordinary concrete
- GB 50204-2015 Code for acceptance of concrete structures, Section 7.2 (materials)
